Waiheke Wine Weekend

New Zealand’s ‘Island of Wine’.

 Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island is known as New Zealand’s ‘Island of Wine’.

Home to a dedicated group of award-winning winegrowers who have successfully matched the unique maritime climate and ancient soil structures to the selection of classical grape varieties in order to produce red and white wines with distinctive varietal character. With a total planted area of just 216 hectares divided among 30 growers, wine production is small and top vintages are keenly awaited.

Waiheke Island paradise is home to not only vineyards, but also spectacular scenery, pristine beaches, fun activities, a vibrant art scene and world-class hospitality offerings.

If you’re a wine connoisseur, or merely a connoisseur at consuming wine, this tour is for you.  Come have some and a taste of all Waiheke Island has to offer!

Itinerary

Day 1

Whanganui / Home – Waiheke Island

Whanganui / Home (October 25th)

If departing from Whanganui, meet at the Whanganui Racecourse at 9am and travel out to our local airport for a 10:30am flight to Auckland. Once we’ve landed we’ll make our way into town for a bite to eat and a well deserved wine! Mid afternoon we’ll catch the ferry over to Waiheke and be transferred to our beachside accommodation where we will stay for the next 3 nights.

Waiheke Island

Dinner tonight is at a highly rated restaurant right next door to our accommodation. Then get some rest - Tomorrow is going to be a big day 🙂

Accommodation: Onetangi Beach Apartments

Day 2

Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island (October 26th)

We start the day with a lite breakfast which is provided in your room and don’t get underway until 10:30am so theres plenty of time to relax or take a stroll along the gorgeous onetangi Beach.

Our wine exploration kicks off at Stonyridge Vineyard. Sit back, relax and taste some wine.  We then move onto Batch Winery for lunch and a few more cheeky glasses of wine. The views from this winery are incredible and the food to die for. I’m sure we’ll enjoy the wine also!

This afternoon we float on to Mudbrick and Cable Bay Vineyards to sample more wine before heading back to our accommodation around 4pm. Leave the cooking to Jase tonight as he prepares a BBQ dinner onsite. Let's see where the night takes us.

Accommodation: Onetangi Beach Apartments

Day 3

Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island (October 27th)

Sunday morning will start nice and quietly with breakfast onsite.  Then we start the day nice and strong with a visit to the Waiheke Distilling Co. Gin tasting and cocktails are the order of the day here!

We hit the road and visit another side of the island where you’ll simply love the vibe of the Man O War Vineyard and sit down for a platter style lunch and sample some of their wine.

Our final stop today sees us visit the very groovy Casita Miro Vineyard. Lounge about and soak up the view while you sip away sampling their wine.

We are back at accommodation with plenty of time to relax and enjoy each other's company before another special group dinner on our final evening.

Accommodation: Onetangi Beach Apartments

Day 4

Waiheke Island – Home

Waiheke Island (October 28th)

After a relaxed start to the day we are collected and transferred to the Waiheke Ferry Terminal and make our way back to the big smoke of Auckland. You’ll have time to wander the shops or simply kick back in and around the viaduct and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

Home

We’ll then head out to the airport to catch our 5pm flight straight home to Wanganui. Back in time for dinner and a good night's rest!

What an awesome way to spend Labour weekend!

Frequently asked questions

Can you collect me from my door?

Yes, it would be our pleasure. We can arrange for you to be picked up and returned to your front door at the conclusion of any tour.

How about travel insurance?

We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance as soon as you book your trip. It just puts your mind at ease. Remember to make sure you are covered for and loss of personal possessions, sickness, accidents or travel delays. Feel free to ask us for any tips to make this quick and easy for you.

How active are your tours?

We are called Take it Easy for a reason as we like to do just that. Do as much or as little as you like - after all it's your holiday! However, there is walking and various activities on each tour that require various levels of fitness. Please check with us if you are unsure about anything and relax knowing that there's always another option for you if you would rather miss out on any activity. We always have a back up plan.

What happens if I have to cancel?

Cancellation charges do apply so again we recommend travel insurance. Our cancellation policy is clearly outlined for each tour so make sure you cast your eye over it and please feel free to ask any questions.

What kind of accommodation do we stay in?

Having a good night's rest after a day out touring is very important so we personally choose all of our accommodation. Generally, four star accommodation when available - with all the comforts you need for a relaxed night.

What types of transport do we use?

Our buses are quality touring coaches that are very comfortable and fully air conditioned. They range in size from 19-28 seats ensuring that we can easily access all those secret spots off the beaten track. All vehicles are regularly serviced as your safety is our priority.

Coaches and luggage trailers are always locked and secure but we recommended you take any valuables with you when staying overnight.
